Race on the Runway is a collaboration between Currituck County, the Currituck County Regional Airport, The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Kid’s First, Inc., and local businesses.
In addition to a 1-mile fun-run, this event also offers a 5k, and we are proud to have the area’s only 10k!
We are honored to support Kid’s First, Inc., whose mission is to provide Help, Healing, and Hope to children in northeastern North Carolina who have been sexually or physically abused or neglected. Please know that 100% of the proceeds from this event will go to Kid’s First, Inc. Our staff is all volunteers.
Race on the Runway offers:
Whether you are a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun way to experience our regional airport, Race on the Runway will deliver. Runners and walkers' welcome! We recommend that strollers and dogs (leash required) start at the back. If you don’t have a pup and want to walk one, let us know and the local animal shelter will provide a friendly pooch, that will certainly enjoy the experience with you.
We have a timing company for the race and while these are non-USATF certified courses this year, your results will be sent via text/email with fully searchable results. You can print a certificate from the timing website, and you will also receive a finisher’s medal at the finish line. There is also finish line video and a live results TV. Finish line video is posted to YouTube and linked to each runner’s individual results.
This isn’t the only event of the day -- stay after the race to enjoy the free Planes and Plows festival which will host multiple vendors, games, food truck, plane rides and more. Showers are available at the Cooperative Extension, if you would like to rinse off before planes and plows. Later in the day is the Currituck County Sheriff’s Department’s National Night Out.
